At High Country Vet, we’re proud to have a team of dedicated professionals who bring passion, expertise, and heart to their work. This month, we’re shining our spotlight on Dr. Taylor Karlin, DVM, a remarkable veterinarian whose journey and interests make her an incredible asset to our practice and the community.
Dr. Karlin was born in Colorado Springs, but her story spans the country. She spent much of her childhood in the scenic landscapes of Steamboat Springs and the historic countryside of Maryland. Her love for animals began early, owning and showing horses in Western Pleasure competitions. This passion eventually steered her toward a career in veterinary medicine, combining her love for animals with a desire to make a difference.
Dr. Karlin began her academic journey at the University of South Carolina, where she earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She then returned to her home state to attend veterinary school at Colorado State University, graduating with a focus on equine health. Her areas of professional interest include lameness and sports medicine, where she excels in diagnosing and treating performance-related issues in horses. Dr. Karlin also holds a postgraduate certificate in Animal Chiropractic, which allows her to provide the next level of care to her patients.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Karlin’s adventurous spirit really shines. You’ll often find her exploring the outdoors or traveling the world. Whether she’s backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, or kayaking. She also stays active by playing soccer and softball and cherishes quality time with her dog, who is often her partner in the above activities. Her connection to nature mirrors her commitment to the animals she treats, always seeking balance and harmony in all she does.
Dr. Karlin’s passion for veterinary care extends far beyond our local community. She is a proud volunteer with the Equitarian Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and welfare of working equids around the globe. This initiative collaborates with other nonprofits, veterinary schools, and local communities to provide sustainable healthcare solutions. Dr. Karlin has contributed her expertise in places like Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru, Guatemala, and South Dakota, among others. The programs she participates in not only deliver life-saving care to working equids but also educate owners and local veterinarians, creating a lasting impact on both the animals and the communities they serve.
Through her work with the Equitarian Initiative, Dr. Karlin embodies the values of compassion and service, improving the lives of animals and the people who depend on them. Her efforts remind us of the profound connection between animals and humans and the difference that dedicated veterinary care can make.
We’re incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Karlin as part of our team at High Country Vet. Her expertise, dedication, and adventurous spirit inspire all of us to strive for excellence in everything we do.
Thank you, Dr. Karlin, for your contributions both locally and globally. We’re proud to have you with us!
